CIP trip in taiwan
haha, the CIp trip had finally ended, after like 6 months of planning, from discussion with the class, the decision to do an overseas CIP, deciding to go Taiwan and teach english and finally completion of the trip and reflections, it was a long process, though tiring in the first place, especially with all the planning and anxiety, it was truly and enjoyable process. haha..i had never organised an overseas trip before and i am very glad that this one Turned out well..haha and I made four new friends in the four girls from other classes who joined the trip. Also got to know some of classmates better haha..
Well update on the trip:
18th Nov:
Depart from Changi Airport, haha very excited we all to go to Taiwan to do CIP. When we were at the airport, my dad came and we took a bus to Taichung. The lesson plan people were discussing lesson plans and the rest were either sleeping cos it was a tiring flight or they were singing songs haha.. when we got to the hotel, it was a pretty good one..i had to see a doctor because I was still sick and the rest went to eat steamboat haha..
Hardly slept that night, even though I was at home, dunno why haha
19th Nov:
went to hotel to find them and we went to have breakfast. They had youtiao, salted dou jiang, shao bing and some had jianjiao and dan bing..
then we went shopping at da mai jia..a hypermarket. Haha…spend some time there hunting for snacks also besides finding materials..
lunch at taichung we ate meat dumplings as well as yang chun mian, qie zai mian haha…and then the cars from my dad’s friends came to whisck us off to the school..
the lodge was so beautiful and so was the school..the scenery.. and dinner at chen ma ma’s was an enjoyment. Delicious wild boar meat haha and her songs..love it very much, the taiya people..met May, Linda on the roads, haha first contact with the kids there.
at night, saw 7 shooting stars haha and learnt a bit of astro from the twins and GGY, haha..man tired..slept only like 30 minutes that night lol
20th Nov:
1st day of school and we were pretty quick-witted in the sense that we really reacted well haha as the standards of the kids were somewhat lower than we had expected and really maybe because they were shy or what..but manage to do a lot of interactions and they asked really good questions about Singapore, like what is banned in Singapore haha..the kids were so cute especially those indigenous kids..had fun teaching them
after school, we saw their dance, taiya dance about the seven-colored birds..really cool..haha..that night still couldn’t sleep very well..maybe was too excited and couldn’t wait to return to see the kids again..
21st Nov:
prepare for English week to take place on the next day..and also lesson continued. After the first day, we sort of know how to teach the kids better and it was fun..really..stayed at their activity centre till 8 to prepare for English week. Haha..fed the mosquitoes quite a lot..in the morning, my dad had came with my mum and sis to visit us, and yup brought cake for mingwei and charmaine. That night, we sprang a surprise on them and yanyi and miss soh really could act very well haha.. “the door is spoilt!!” yup haha..
22nd Nov:
English week.. well it was a great success…should see the stampede when the kids rushed forward to get sweets from GGY and charmaine, they sort of charged at them haha but they were really so innocent and cute..haha..taught them bingo songs as well as through dog and bone, they really had fun..at other stations too..could tell that they enjoyed themselves very much, that made us feel less tired..haha…it was great planning for the englis week people and despite the poor weather in the morning, the spirit was not dampened, which was very encouraging and heartening haha
23rd Nov:
the last day, where we can get to teach the kids in full, haha cos on Friday, most kids will be going for some dance. We had a fantastic day teaching them, and taking photos..really very hard to stop teaching them..they were all so eager and nice, and not spoilt..unlike kids in Singapore, haha at least unlike some here..lol..love them a lot and doesn’t want top leave them..at night, we went to visit some fish farm selling trouts, we had grilled trout that night, which was so delicious, I had never eaten so much fish in one sitting before..haha..and it was really a feast..we had chen mama’s wild boar, mountain chickens and veggies as well as fishball soup haha..the kids came over, simon, calvin, Jason, peter and jimmy, so did May and Linda who joined us later in some sing-a long, that night, we really enjoyted ourselves.. and I know I will definitely miss them..that afternoon had to take care of some kindergarten kids and sprained my back unfortunately..couldn’t sit straight and couldn’t bend down..*sigh have to leave earlier on Friday, cannot have farewell with the kids..a reporter came to ask us some questions in the afternoon haha..didnt really like being interviewed..
24th Nov:
was with the kids on the bus taking them to the dance competition..haha they were all in high spirits and some thought that I was going to dance with them..haha..bet they didn’t know if I go dancing at that moment, I cant forget about my back and waist..haha..played hei bai qie with a little girl who was in p2…she was very cute, sitting next to me on the bus..haha..i tried letting her win..and I almost forgot that I have a hand which had a blister and luckily I let her slapped my the other hand before she whacked hard at it..lol..they are really..so fun..*sigh..i would like to go back to do befriender’s dance and have farewell but my dad wouldn’t allow me to..but I am definitely going back sometime next week..
that night had steak..at gui zu shi jia..haha…very nice pork chop and yup very glad that everyone can enjoy a good meal after a week’s hard work..haha..and yup went yi zhong jie to shop..bought late birthday prezzies for mingwei, charmaine and twins…hahacould tell that the girls shop like some man..lol…and yanyi was bargaining like mad.for voodoo dolls..haha..and took neoprints..lol..but where are my neoprints..????
25th Nov:
was very sick,..and tired..*sigh..my lymph nodes had swollen so much that even as I turned my neck, it hurt so much..yup we did touring in Taipei, I was very tired..so apologies that sometimes I might have led the way wrongly..
we went zhongxiao ast rd to eat din tai fung, but it was full, went du xiao yue to have noodles which was really delicious, but I was feeling sleepy..then we went sun yat sen memorial hall..haha..learnt a bit of cultural history..and saw the rotation of duty of guards which was really lucky cos they started just as we reached..haha..and then went to dan shui and but tie dan and eat a gei..was trying to treat my sore throat and drinking lotsa herbal stuffs and at shilin, I still did not give up…haha..the nightmarket was cool, it was my first time there also..
then we went back to hotel and I managed to get my strepsils..
26th Nov:
throat still hurting like mad..but after rinsing with salt water was a bit better, thanks to yanyi for the suggestion..haha..visted Taipei 101..had a great view but need to leave early cos my dad needs to pass me medicine..then we went to ximen ding to have lunch..jianjiao and shuijiao..haha..got medicine from my dad, after eating it, was feeling better..did not go shopping at ximen ding..but went back to hotel to rest first..
had to leave Taiwan already..it had been a long trip and the bus trip to airport take us on our way back to Singapore..
haha..had fun last minute browsing stuffs at the airport shops..
2356: touchdown at Singapore..
well..it was certainly an enriching experience, it let me learn that even in developed countries like Taiwan, there are still people who need help and I was very glad that we managed to fulfil the 3 aims..to level playing field..to get students interested and to allow them to love English and we ourselves have all benefited a lot from the trip. the importance of simplicity and everything..really. we need to relook at our life and see if we can slow down a bit and look and admire the things arouns us, appreciate the people around us..with little love from everyone instead of coldness, the world would be a better place haha..going back taiwan again on 3rd dec

18th Nov:
