Haha..we are so excited that we are going to Germany today..yup..never realised that this day has finally come. We were at the airport all pumped up and waiting for our Quantas flight to Frankfurt. On the flight, we couldn’t sleep..you see..over-excitement..so what do we do? well watch Brokeback of course..It is so exciting..we have no teacher just the five of us..yea!!!!a 12 hour flight seem so long..i cannot wait to see Germany..
Day 2:
Yup..we have finally touched down at Frankfurt (am Main) Flughafen..haha..there was so delay with the customs and we have to run for the bus to reach the Regionalbahnhof to catch the train to Frankfurt city. We hope there would be no more delays as we need to catch up with a free tour in Berlin. Luckily the train came on time..the ICE is beautiful..haha..and super fast..around 290 km/h..haha.. well..on the train we met this friendly German man who introduced to us the various culture of Germany and recommended to us the nice places in Berlin..On the way we even got to see the Volkswagen Factory in Wolfsburg as we passed by the station. Haha..when we reached the A&O Hostel at Berlin Bahnhof am Zoo, we were still very hectic..after we had unpacked we quickly grabbed our first Bratwursts and ran to the meeting point of the free tour.
During the tour, we first took the S-Bahn..the equivalent of the Singapore MRT to Unter den Linden, where the Brandenburger Gate can be found. This gate was built during The Prussian times and is the symbol of Berlin which is the capital of Prussia. We were introduced to the history of the Gate, something about Napoleon and the Quadrat on the Gate. It was pretty interesting and we saw also the Hotel Adlon, where the famous Michael Jackson dangling baby incident took place. Later, we went to the German Reichstag, which is the German parliament house. It was very much classical. After which we went to the Jewish Holocaust Memorial and the Apartments of the East Germans..and the death place of Adolf Hitler..
We then also went to Checkpoint Charlie which is the most major Checkpoint during the East-West Germany times..We also visited the Berlin wall…and learnt about its history..During break time we drank coffee in a small coffee house near Checkpoint Charlie to rest our legs and after which we visited the old-quarters of the Berlin city. We went to Alexander-Humboldt University where Einstein once taught and where Karl Marx was also a famous alumni..we also went past the famous St Hedwig’s Cathedral..as well as visited the Museum island..where the German New and Old Museums stand..there we sat on the steps of the Museum entrance and listen to the history of Berlin.
After we return to our room we found that there were two more roommates..they came from Finland and yeah..we invited them along for our Pub-crawl at night and we went to pubs drinking beer and spirits, having fun…only at around mid-night did we go back to the hostel..oh man..we were so crazy..haha..
